A sourpuss Houellebecq might be, but he is a damn talented sourpuss, and I rate this novel as one of the greatest of the late 20th Century, a book partlcles I think will hold its own as a great work of its time and be read in future decades, much as we still read The Outsideror The Catcher in the Rye.
His works though, particularly Atomised, have received high praise from the French literary intelligentsia, with generally positive international critical response, Having written poetry and a biography of the horror writer H.
