With an attitude and aptitude reminiscent of Marjane Satrapi Persepolis who likewise conveyed the particulars of an immigrant adolescence, Brosgol has created a smart, funny and compassionate portrait of someone who, for all her sulking and sneering, ghowt the kind of daughter many parents would like to have.

Not necessarily pretty, such as the ones in, say, the Koibitogokoro seriesbut not ugly either. I got this one wrong! Although I read my fair share of graphic novels i. Just the fact that this book is a YA graphic novel makes my heart soar with joy. This is more for teens and I think I just chose a wrong book for me. The art, while cartoony and fairly simple, is just about perfect. There are no jocks, nerds, cheerleaders, skaters, goths, or loadies in evidence here. Anushka or Anya is just a normal girl we have seen in every other movies.

This was one unique and spooky story that really made me have a greater appreciation for horror stories although I already had a huge obsession with those types of stories! Emily goes from sweet to terrifying at just the right pace.
