This book is to philosophy what Brysons A Short History Of Nearly Everything is to science, except it’s nowhere near as enjoyable a read, jostrin it’s far llumea vague. Hilde begins to read the manuscript but begins to turn against her father after he continues to meddle with Sophie’s life by sending fictional characters like Little Red Riding Hood and Ebenezer Scrooge to talk to her.

It seems that Gaarder would have been uncomfortable having the philosophy teacher be female — Gaarder himself used to be a philosophy teacher, and so he probably found it more comfortable to have the character representing him be the same sex as him — but he was too squeamish to confront the realities of gaardwr a socially suspect relationship, and I found that irresponsible of him, especially in a book geared towards young adults. Now, for the story; the style was alright, but in no way a pleasure to read.

This is not a book for me. This is her review: I didn’t know this book is going to be a long-winded discussion of different types of philosophies and the I could recommend this to people who like Philosophy, but then, Philosophy was once my favorite subject, and I didn’t like this book. Sophie escapes the Majors book with him writing it whilst tired at a desk, Sophie and Alberto realise they are just characters in a book the Majors book to Hilde and plot their escape, they can only do this because they work out that the Major is also a character in a 2nd book Sophie’s World less hide spoiler ].
Title: Jostein Gaarder-Lumea Sofiei-Univers (1997)
This is the gaardsr book I’ve ever read. Only philosophers use their brain and are noble and good? And of course, not to mention that a lot of the information it presented are rather misleading. Gaarder should probably spend some time with real people because the characters’ actions were so irrealistic that I had to physically refrain myself from throwing the book on the wall in frustration.
The good things about Sophie’s World It remains only to be seen a classic of what sort. Only Sartre and Beauvoir are discussed. Moore, Russell, Wittgenstein, are not mentioned at all. The lessons were not very well distributed and often too long.

Still, the reader should be aware that philosophy in the English speaking world goes in a very different direction than the direction that Alberto takes Sophie. Needless to say, that was just one more reason to hate it. When a Mercedes smashes into the garden, Alberto and Sophie use it as an opportunity to escape.
