Feb 07, Robin Nicholas rated it it was amazing. Fi A beautiful, wonderfully written story about two women; one at the beginning of her life, the other lidna the end of her life, who meet and because of this discover hope and love again. This a subtle but powerful novel, tender and poignant.

However, for me, there seemed to be a disconnect with characterization – something that was missing in both of these women for me to want to care about them or find them real, particulary Veronika.
It is about a friendship between a younger and an older woman in a small town in Sweden. The author had a sweet way of expressing a very human need to feel loved and needed.
However, Astrid takes an interest in Veronika. Five stars to this book which immediately olason going on my list of favorites! Published February 6th by Penguin veronima published Astrid shares hidden wild strawberries, mushrooms, jam, Swedish pancake and fishballs, recipes, meals, wills house to Veronika for bringing her back to enjoyment of life.

I can’t stand these characters that their lives are over when they lose a man. It is the sharing of each others’ wounds and loves which transform both of their lives. What we choose to see, what we choose to save.
Sometimes, good things come to us in a such a quiet fashion. The author is Swedish but now lives in New Zealand and the book is set in both places, but mostly in Sweden. Rather than blunting the pain or significance of their troubles, this soothing treatment enabled me to feel their pain and yet keep on reading with empathy and admiration for their personal growth.
Astrid is quiet, keeps to herself, and is almost a recluse. View all vdronika comments.

She barely knew the man and yes it’s sad he died, but again, I didn’t really feel it. Even when qstrid characters are reliving traumatic events, the author wraps them and the reader in a soothing blanket of poetic language, depictions of the natural beauty of the landscape, and the hopeful outlook that these characters — and humans llnda general — can overcome those obstacles and dare to love again.
It is a well-written book, but I did not like the style.

Dec 31, Sarah rated it really liked it. Whereas most books propel you forward via an urgent pace and dramatic or suspenseful plot elements, this book unfolds gently and vefonika and then relies upon your genuine interest in and intimacy with the characters to keep you turning pages.
Astrid, and elderly, isolated soul meets her new neighbor, Veronika, a devastated and wandering soul. This novel, about friendship, love and loss, takes place in Sweden.
