Sarah finds herself as a caretaker of Harlan, who’s been mentally incapacitated by his rivals through drugs. She married in and had three children: It has a good premise, is an easy well-paced read, has elements of sci-fi, adventure, romance, horror and definitely anne the notion of a book taking you away to somewhere new. Well, if you must write a romance, at least a good SF setting makes it easier to swallow.

I read reshoree mostly as a historical analysis of science-fiction as it was anhe first book published by Anne McCaffrey in As such, it’s more fascinating than it is as a novel! I borrowed it and never returned it.

There’s far more telling than showing, much of the action takes place off stage, and the story frequently gets bogged down in boring politics with too large a cast of characters. And there are enough SF themes alien abduction, alien culture and suspense will Sara be outed? When I need a shot o I have read this book several times and I can’t seem to get enough of it. I’ve often wished that Anne would have written a sequel or at least continued on for a few more chapters. The story is a basic tale of political plottings and overthrows, set in another galaxy with slightly alien tech that is described in old tech vernacular.

Aug 15, Caroline rated it did not like it Shelves: Kind of disjointed, needed more world-building and a few more chapters at the end. A really dated, early effort by Anne McCaffrey. Their sexual relationship is definitely more attuned to the cultural norms of the s than today, as the lines of consent are not as clear-cut as one would like them to be.

It’s hard enough keeping track of our own earthly political and historical happenings in concert with all the mundane and more personal events, but McCaffrey just throws you completely in a another world, amid all the intrigues and suspense of a planet not our own. The Renegades of Pern. And her acquisition of their language is very unlikely.
